When I typed "PICC Insertion" on You Tube, much to my surprise there were two videos of insertions.
Both were with minimum sterile barrier, not to mention the gross breach of sterility. All together they were done so different from the way I know to insert them, I wonder what you all think about it?
There were other PICC procedures on You Tube, all quite different from the way I practice.
Please check them out, I wonder what comments you may have.Â
Lynn, have you seen it?Â
No I am not a big You Tube user so have not seen it, but will check them out. I am not sure what can be done about it, if anything.

I think I've seen that one. I also saw another one on IJ non-tunneled central catheter insertion that showed terrible technique - and it was a teaching video for MDs! I posted so many comments correcting the video and backing it up with references, they removed it.

I had a patient tell me about it. She had come in for a picc insertion and did her research on the internet.
I agree the technique was bad. It was done at Walter Reed Hospital. Why don't our government run hospitals practice what they preach.
I don't think comments are allowed anymore. The poster got a lot of negative comments about the technique from PICC nurses.

I'm glad to see someone else has seen this video and was concerned. Wonder what their infection rate is?

[/quote]I found the same video because I wanted to show one of my friends what I do for a living, and to my surprise i found that video. I was horrified and thought my word I pray that this is an extremely old video and that they just didn't know. I'm hoping that they have since started using maximum barrier precautions.
