Our team is currently updating our catflo policy for piccs, ports. Can I have some feedback from others on the policy at your institution (hospital or homecare). Specifically, is  it written into your cathflo policy that your team can cathflo a device using nursing judgement OR does your team have to obtain a direct physician's order to cathflo the device??
We have to have the doctor's order.

MD order, but it is a standing order on the PICC requisition (the default is for tPA). The MD has to order if they do NOT want it.

Thank you for your input. Our team is considering including our cathflo procedure under our routine PICC care protocol. The cathflo inclusion would be approved by the hospital's medical executive committee (comprised of phyisicans).
