Criteria for continuation of a Central Line

 

Hi Lynn,

Is there any criteria established regarding the continuation of a central line and the interval of reassessment for it's continued need?

Each patient should be

Each patient should be assessed on a daily basis for the continued need for the CVC and it should be removed at the first possible opportunity. No catheter should be allowed to dwell one day longer than is needed for the prescribed therapy. This is part of the CDC and IHI recommendations.
