Coag studies from PICC
I've had a question posed to me and I am coming to all of you to be sure of my answer.  I know the standard has been to not draw coag studies thru Central Lines.  Now that we are no longer using heparin in our lines, is this no longer an issue? Thanks!

We draw all our blood

We draw all our blood through lines regardless of the heparin flush (ports only).

Coagulation studies drawn

Coagulation studies drawn from any catheter are a problem if heparin is being used, but there should be no problem if you are not using heparin.
