Pain Management during IV procedures
I am the Coordinator for the Tacoma General IV Therapy Team and we are trying to find out what types of pain control measures other facilities are using for both peds and adults prior to IV's, port access, lab draws etc. At the present time, we use buffered lidocaine intradermally for adults and Pain Ease, LMX, and EMLA for peds. Does anyone have other options that may be working better for them that we can look into/consider? Please let me know! Thanks.

Have you assesses LidoSite

Have you assesses LidoSite from B Braun or the Synera from Endo Pharmaceuticals?

No personal experience with them but just a couple of new technologies to look at.

Thanks for the response. I
Thanks for the response. I do have a flyer for LidoSite and my manager wanted me to look into Synera as well. I just wanted to know if teams have had success with these before I put the time into getting the vendors here and trying out the products.

I work at a large pediatric

I work at a large pediatric facility, and currently we are using the J-tip.  The patients and IV team love it.  It works immediately...no wait time...and patients don't feel any poke at all.  We have also used synera, but are phasing it out.  I'm told it's due to cost.  We also have LMX and EMLA available, but use them much less frequently.

I have been trying to
I have been trying to contact the company that makes the J-Tip (National Medical Products, Inc) for weeks with no response. Do you have the contact information for the supplier you get the J-Tip from? I would greatly appreciate it.

We use predominantly LMX4.

We use predominantly LMX4.  Synera is also available in some areas but I prefer not to use due to it's limitations and cost.

I am planning to look at J-tip.  There is also a product called Zingo which also delivers Lidocaine under pressure. I have not used it but was not impressed with the device initially.

We do not use any spray analgesic, not do we use EMLA because of the time to effectiveness.

Would anyone respond with

Would anyone respond with the actual generic name for LMX4?   I can't find it under lidocaine.

Thanks

LMX4 is lidocaine 4% topical
LMX4 is lidocaine 4% topical anesthetic cream.  I don't have the package insert in front of me but that is on the tube label.  I don't know why you would not be able to find it under lidocaine.

I work in ca children's hospital. We use a variety of TLAs. LMX4 is made by Ferndale labs. It is also available OTC, so perhaps tht is why it is not popping up. Below is a contact for you  on the product.
