Choices for US for new PICC team

Hi all, I'm learning lots here at the website.

The VAS that we currently use have iLook US's. So that is kinda the only thing

we've looked into so far.  Are there other options we should be looking into?

Other companies, etc.

Any help appreciated.

I would like to ask what is VAS?

I think that your choice of ultrasound is dependent on your system's purchasing constrictions.  Does the device available to you meet your needs?  Do you have other options that give you ultrasound capabilities?  Do you have have other options that give you tip location capabilities?

We have experienced great advances in our practice since having ultrasound visibility and the use of tip location system.

There are currently 4

There are currently 4 available on the market specifically for vascular access.

Bard Site Rite 6 is their current model, there may be Site Rite 5's and 4's available

Sonosite has a new one that can do vascular access and other things

Navilyst (formerly Boston Sci) has the ILook25 (but not for much longer)

Arrow has the InView

Bards, Navilyst's and Arrow's are for vascular access only

Sorry, "VAS" is the name of the company that we currently use to place PICC's in our hospital.

I got a phone call, and apparently our "purchasing constrictions" on the US are greater than I'd thought. So that might not be coming along very soon.

Our Radiology department does US, including carotid and venous studies, would these transducers not also work for placing PICC's?  I think a plain old chest xray is the easiest option for tip placement in our small facility.

Thanks for the questions.

A plain chest xray is the

A plain chest xray is the national standard of practice for assessing tip location. There are catheter navigation systems and the system based on ECG readings, however those have not changed the standard of care or the standard of practice.
