Are you your own cost center
We are looking at becoming our own cost center at our hospital. Currently we fall under the Nursing Administration department which is not a revenue generating department. I was just wondering what other hospitals are doing as far as their PICC teams. Is there benchmarking data out there?  Thanks!

Yes - we are our own cost

Yes - we are our own cost center, and we're not in Nursing Administration - we're in Interventional Radiology.

And - good luck with that revenue generating thing! I think you'll be more successful presenting yourselves in terms of how much money you're saving the hospital, and in what way you're are able to provide standard of practice/best practice in vascular access for your patients.

Mari great comments. I taught you well.

To answer the question:

There is no revenue generation from inpatient PICC line insertions for the hospital itself in at least 60% of patients or more

You do however want to be your own cost center for budgeting purposes and to get your share of the overall DRG

We are our own cost center

We are our own cost center and we are not revenue producing, but focused on cost avoidance.
