Shaving for a PIV

   I have been told that shaving a site for a PIV is a no-no due to microscopic abrasions made by the razor.  Does anyone know off hand if there are any studies to support this?  I am busy today and do not have time to surf.  Thanks for any and all info.

INS standards cover this;

INS standards cover this; I've listed a partial list below - and the references they use under that.

INS SOP 39.1  Hair removal shall be performed in a pmanner that preserves skin integrity.

a.  Hair removal should be performed with scissors or electric clippers

c.  Shaving should not be performed with a razor because of the portential for causing microabrasions, which increase the risk of infection.
