AT a seminar I attended the speaker stated that IV 's should be started three fingers above the wrist on the radial side and the inner wrist due to the possibility of nerve damage. I'm looking for any references that support this statement. I need to provide this information for a risk assessment meeting I attended. Thanks for your help.

I cannot remember the name of the study, but there was one done on several cadavers that showed a very high percentage of radial nerve damage when the patient had a PIV within that area of the wrist. Lynn? Kathy? Do you guys remember the name of that study?
