We are in the process of updating P&P for lab draws from central lines, cap changes, etc. Past practice has been to prep the cap for lab draws, including, blood cultures, with betadine. Same with cap changes--betadine to the hub grooves before new cap put on. I'd like to switch change it to just a really good alcohol prep for all of it. Is there any benefit to povidone-iodine over alcohol? What are others doing to prep for cnetral line lab draws and injection cap changes? Thanks.

one of the frequent users (sorry I cant remember who) sent me a chart some time ago comparing products and it shows betadine as being ineffective on surfaces. maybe she will respond again. if she does please share with all. thanks
