Powerwand VS Powerglide?

Our team is evaluating placing a 29 day extended dwell catheter.  We would like to get other professional's feedback as to which one is best and pros and cons of each.  Any input is greatly appreciated!

The advertised 29 days is NOT a statement about the maximum dwell time for these catheters. It is merely the label attached based on FDA guidance. Lynn

Thanks for your input, Lynn.

Thanks for your input, Lynn.  Are you saying, that from your experience, they don't last for 29 days?  And, what are your concerns regarding complications with these lines?  Do you recommend them?

 To my knowledge there is

To my knowledge there is only one published study on the PowerWand, and that study did not use them as a midline catheter. So I can not speak to outcome with either of these midline catheters. These are both labeled as a midline catheter and should be used for that tip location only. The 29 days is a confusing statement. It does not imply dwell time in any way, although many people interpret this to mean they can only remain in place for that period of time. FDA requires that manufacturers state whether their catheter is for short term use (less than 30 days) or for long term use (more than 30 days) in their 510(k) application to the FDA. When this application is made, there is no clinical data on the product, so this is an arbitrary decision based on what the engineers had in mind as they designed the catheter. I would not hesitate to allow on to remain in place longer than 29 days if it is complicaiton free. Lynn
