Joint Commission requirement

Does anyone's insitution require a physician to co sign their procedural insertion note( hard copy and or computerized documentation) after PICC placement?

 Good heavens, NO!! Why would this even be a thought in anyone's mind? The physician had nothing to do with decisisons made immedaitely before, during and after this insertion so why would they need to co-sign. This sounds demeaning to the nurse inserter. Lynn

No.    I have them order a picc consult for __abx, etc.____  request _______ lumen.

 

then I review WBC, Creatine, H&H, INR, PLT, CXR, GFR, EKG, PMH, Allergies, and document on the back of the order form that I complete.  Any Concerns I call them and address it.

I'm curious what prompted that question Susan.  Does this question relate to releasing the line for use?  I just want to make sure you are getting the information you need.
