Our medical staff director just came back from a CDC conference where he heard wearing hoods (surgical head covering) during central line insertions is the new standard. This is so all the hair around the nape of the neck and face is covered. Is this true? Any references?
Thanks,
Tami
This is not included in the 2011 CDC guidelines. Your medical director should be providing any references rather than you searching for them, if he/she wants this change. I have never seen any studies recommending this. Lynn

Thanks Lynn. I wonder if he is referring to lines placed in the OR? Anyway, thanks for your response.
