Evidence Supporting IV Catheter Stabilization Devices

Disclaimer: I am a rep for StatLock

Is there any evidence that has been published that supports the efficacy of any other product that claims to be a catheter stabilization device?

I ask because a hospital that currently uses tape to secure their IVs is interested in evaluating the StatLock but has a policy that they must evaluate a new product against two similar products.  They also have a policy though that any product being evaluated must have evidence that supports the efficacy of the product to be evaluated.  I have reached out to a couple of my competitors and asked this same question and have not had any luck obtaining evidence that was not produced by them.  Maybe someone here can direct me toward a published study that shows, with statistical significance, evidence that supports the efficacy of any product other then StatLock.  This is my last attempt to locate evidence of another product before informing this hospital that there isn't another product out there with evidence.  The last thing I want to do is mislead them.

Thanks for your help,

Richard

Hi Richard, I am not aware of any published evidence on any other brand of catheter stabilization (aka securement( device that has been published yet. I think there are others coming but I have not found any other as of this moment that have actually been published. Lynn

Professional Opinion

Thank you very much Ms. Hadaway.  It's not often I get the chance to pick the brain of an expert in my industry so please forgive me for jumping at the opportunity.  What is your opinion on dressings that market themselves as a catheter stabilization device?  Also, if it's OK to discuss, what other evidence have you heard about?

Sorry for the delay in my

Sorry for the delay in my response. I have been out of the country. We do not have any published evidence yet about these other dressings and their outcomes with catheter stabilization. So it is very hard even impossible to make any judgements yet. The only other thing you can rely on is your experience with them. I think there are studies in progress of some of them but they have not been published yet. So it is a matter of obtaining you own outcomes through clinical use or waiting until some evidence is published. Lynn
